Kibidwé is the oldest neighbourhood in Bobo-Dioulasso, a maze of dirt lanes and traditional Sudanese-style mud houses immediately around the Grande Mosquée. The Bobo people who founded the city still live here in compounds clustered around small courtyards, and the quarter feels more like a village than a downtown district even though the rest of the city presses up against it.
The best way to see Kibidwé is on foot with a local guide who can introduce you to active blacksmith forges, weavers, and the small Dafra sacred pond on the edge of the quarter. Cameras require some discretion: ask before photographing people or shrines. Allow at least 90 minutes and try to combine it with a visit to the mosque.
