Bangui has a surprisingly varied restaurant scene given the country's difficulties. French colonial influence is strong — baguettes, croissants, and proper café au lait are easy to find. The restaurants catering to the international NGO and diplomatic community are generally reliable, if expensive by local standards.
For cheaper and more authentic food, the street stalls around the Marché Central and in the KM5 area serve excellent grilled fish, spit-roasted chicken, and plantain. Brochettes (skewered meat) are ubiquitous and usually very good. Bush meat appears on some menus — politely decline if you prefer.
Beer (Mocaf, the local brew) is cold, cheap, and widely available.
