Getting There

Agostinho-Neto International Airport (PNR) is six kilometres east of the city centre. Air France and several African airlines (Royal Air Maroc, Ethiopian, Asky) run direct flights from Paris, Casablanca, Addis Ababa and Lomé. Trans Air Congo and ECAir handle the short hop to Brazzaville (50 minutes, several daily). Taxis from the airport to Centre-Ville are negotiable, around 5,000-7,000 CFA.

By land, the Congo-Ocean Railway notionally connects Pointe-Noire to Brazzaville, but service is sporadic and the journey takes a punishing 12-24 hours when it runs at all. Most travellers fly between the two cities or use the long-distance road, which is paved most of the way and takes about 8-10 hours by shared minivan.

The land borders into Cabinda (Angola) to the south and Gabon to the north are open but slow; visa rules change without warning. Check the most recent advice before attempting either.
