Bagira covers the hills to the north and west of central Bukavu. It is less commercial than Kadutu and Ibanda, with longer stretches of forest and farmland between the houses, and it is the commune you cross on the way out to Kahuzi-Biega National Park. The Catholic University of Bukavu sits on the edge of Bagira and gives that part of the commune a student feel.
If you want a walk away from the central traffic, the lake shore on the Bagira side has several quieter points and a couple of small restaurants overlooking the water. The road continues up into the hills towards Mudaka and the park gate at Tshivanga.
