Maadi Sporting Club

The Maadi Sporting Club, established in 1921, has been the social heart of the district for over a century. Spread across several acres of gardens and sports facilities, it offers tennis courts, a swimming pool, a football pitch, and a clubhouse that serves as a meeting point for Maadi's large expatriate and upper-middle-class Egyptian communities.

Membership is required for regular access, but non-members can sometimes enter as a guest of a member. The surroundings alone — mature trees, well-kept lawns, and a welcome absence of Cairo's noise — make it the most pleasant open space in the area. The club hosts social events year-round and is especially busy on weekends.

A story
The club was founded in 1921 to serve the British colonial community and the expatriates of the Cairo-Helwan railway suburb. In its early decades it hosted polo, tennis, and cricket. Cricket has long since departed, but the club still operates as the primary social hub for the international community in Maadi — a role it has held for over a century without interruption.
