Suez is about 130 kilometres from Cairo, a journey of around two hours by bus or car via the desert highway. Buses run regularly from Cairo's Turgoman bus station, operated by East Delta Travel and several competing companies. The East Delta bus terminal in Suez is in the city centre.
The city is also a departure point for buses and service taxis into the Sinai Peninsula — to Sharm el Sheikh, Nuweiba, and St Catherine's Monastery. If you are heading to Sinai, you will need to cross the Suez Canal by road tunnel (the Ahmed Hamdi Tunnel beneath the canal north of the city) or via the Ahmed Hamdi road bridge. Buses to Sinai destinations pass through the tunnel.
There is no passenger train service to Suez. Travellers with their own vehicle can also cross by car ferry from Suez to the east bank at Port Tewfik.
