A sprawling open ground on the southern edge of the city, used for the annual Eritrean Festival (Expo) in late July and August. During festival weeks the site fills with stalls representing each of Eritrea's nine ethnic groups, with traditional houses set up alongside food vendors, music stages, and craft demonstrations.
Outside the festival the ground is mostly empty but the perimeter buildings are sometimes used for concerts and political rallies. If you are in Asmara in the southern hemisphere summer, the Expo is one of the most enjoyable events in the country.
