The large ceremonial gateway at the entrance to Banjul, built in 1996. Climb to the observation deck for one of the better views over the city and the river. The small museum inside covers the 1994 coup and the early Jammeh years — historically interesting, if obviously one-sided.

A story
Arch 22 was built to mark the date of the 1994 military coup that brought Yahya Jammeh to power — 22 July. The arch stands 35 metres high and contains a small museum to the coup, which gives an unusually candid view into how the regime chose to commemorate itself.
