Getting There

Juffure sits on the north bank of the Gambia River, about 30 km from the mouth. The easiest way to reach the village is on an organised river excursion from the resort areas along the Atlantic coast — most hotels in Senegambia, Kololi, and Bakau can book a day trip. These boats follow the river upstream past mangroves and small fishing villages, taking around three hours each way, and usually include lunch and a guided tour.

Independent travel is also possible. Take the public ferry from Banjul to Barra on the north bank (about an hour, services run multiple times a day but can be unreliable), then a shared bush taxi to Juffure. The road is rough and the journey takes another two to three hours. Going independently is cheaper and more flexible, but the organised river trip is much more scenic and includes all the necessary fees.
