Ditinn Falls (Chutes de Ditinn)

The Ditinn Falls are the most dramatic waterfall in the Fouta Djallon, dropping 80 metres in a single plunge off the edge of a basalt escarpment into a forested valley. They are about 20 kilometres from Dalaba, accessible by rough track and then a steep 30-minute walk down into the gorge. The path is manageable but requires sensible footwear; the spray from the falls soaks the trail near the base.

Visit during or just after the rainy season (July–October) when the volume of water is at its peak — in the dry season the falls reduce to a thinner curtain. The area around the base is lush and cool even when the plateau above bakes. Local guides in Dalaba can arrange transport and accompany you on the walk; going alone is not advised as the path is unmarked.
