A small mud-walled compound next to the Grand Mosque, said to be the residence of El Hadj Umar Tall during the years he spent in Dinguiraye organising his religious community and preparing for the jihad. The buildings have been rebuilt many times but the layout follows the nineteenth-century original.
Local Tijani caretakers will sometimes show visitors the site for a small donation. The atmosphere is unmistakably devotional — this is a place of pilgrimage, not a museum. Dress modestly and ask permission before taking photographs.
