Cocody

Cocody is the upscale residential and diplomatic district of Abidjan, north and east of Le Plateau. The neighbourhood is where embassies, the Hotel Ivoire, the university, and the homes of Abidjan's wealthier residents are concentrated. The streets are wider, the trees larger, and the general pace more relaxed than in the commercial centre.

The Cocody lagoon waterfront has popular weekend restaurants and the Ivoire Golf Club. The Université Félix Houphouët-Boigny, set in sprawling grounds, adds a student population. Les Deux Plateaux, a residential sub-district with shopping, cafes, and restaurants popular with the expatriate community, is at Cocody's northern edge. The contrast with the dense, market-driven energy of Treichville or Adjamé is sharp and instructive.
