Point Lenana

Point Lenana, at 4,985 metres, is the third-highest summit on Mount Kenya and the highest point reachable without technical climbing. For most trekkers, it is the goal: a pre-dawn ascent on scree and broken rock, arriving at the cross on the summit just as the sun rises over the eastern flank of the mountain.

From the top, on a clear morning, the view stretches across the alpine zone to the technical peaks of Batian and Nelion close by, and on the best days to Kilimanjaro 300 kilometres to the south. The wind is sharp and cold; most parties stay only a few minutes before starting back down. The descent from the summit to the Met Station can be done in a single long day, which is why the Naro Moru route is the popular way out even when climbers came up another way.
