Soysambu Conservancy

Soysambu Conservancy wraps around much of Lake Elmenteita on a working cattle and sheep ranch that has been in the Cole family — descendants of the Earl of Enniskillen — since the colonial era. The conservancy covers roughly 48,000 acres of acacia bush, grasslands, and lake shore.

It is one of the few places in Kenya where you can walk on safari rather than stay confined to a vehicle, and the wildlife is plentiful without being overwhelming: Rothschild's giraffe, zebra, eland, gazelle, leopard, and buffalo all share the ranch. Day visits and walking safaris can be booked with the lodges that operate within the conservancy.
