The Gusii Stadium on the north side of the town centre is the main football ground in this part of Kenya, with a capacity of around 5,000. Sho Mash, the Kisii-based Kenyan Premier League club, plays here. Matches are inexpensive, lively and a good way to spend a Saturday afternoon among local supporters.
When there is no football on, the stadium hosts political rallies, school sports days and the occasional concert. The surrounding area has cheap kiosks selling roast maize, mandazi and sugarcane.
