St Joseph's Cathedral is the seat of the Catholic Diocese of Kisii, established in 1960. The building itself is modest by European standards — a plain modernist hall built in the 1960s — but the choir is famous across western Kenya for its Sunday singing, a mix of Latin liturgy and Gusii harmonies.
The cathedral compound is calm and shaded by tall trees, a useful refuge from the noise of the bus stand a few hundred metres downhill. Visitors are welcome to attend services.
