Awjila is a small place — half a day is enough to see the village itself. The real reason to come is the Atiq Mosque, one of the oldest and most unusual mosques in the Sahara, and a slow wander through the old town and surrounding palm groves. Make time for a short drive into the surrounding desert at sunrise or sunset.
