Central Derna is compact, but the wadi, steep streets and flood damage make walking conditions uneven. A local driver is the simplest way to connect the city centre, harbour, mosques and waterfall area.
Avoid entering damaged structures or unstable riverbank areas. Even where streets are open, the city is still living with the aftermath of the 2023 disaster.
