El Merj is linked by road with Benghazi to the west and Al Bayda, Cyrene and Derna to the east. It can also be approached through Al Abyar or along the coastal route via Tocra.
Do not rely on casual public transport if you are trying to visit archaeological points outside the centre. A car and local driver make the day far easier.
