Kazuni Hides

Two simple raised hides on stilts at the edge of Lake Kazuni are the closest viewing of large mammals at Vwaza. Hippos surface a few metres away, elephants come to drink at the shallows directly below, and the constant procession of antelope, warthog, and birds gives you something to watch for as long as you can sit still.

The hides are part of the camp infrastructure and free to use for camp guests. Sunrise and the hour before dark are when the animals are most active; bring a long lens or binoculars, water, and patience. The lake-edge platforms are also the best spot to sit out the heat of the day with a book between drives.
