Akjoujt has limited sightseeing. The useful stop is the town itself: a mining settlement on the desert road where you can see how Mauritania's interior economy works away from the caravan-town romance of the Adrar.
The Guelb Moghrein Mine, west of town, is not a casual visitor attraction, but the low hills and industrial traffic explain why Akjoujt exists. In town, the market area is the best place to pause for tea, bread, dates, and road supplies before continuing north.
