Ayoun el-Atrous is a transit town rather than a destination — most visitors are passing through on the long overland route between Nouakchott and Mali. That said, the town's market is genuinely worth a wander if you have time to stop, and the surrounding desert landscape has its own austere appeal for those drawn to remote Saharan travel.
