Cansado is a small planned suburb south of Nouadhibou, built in the 1960s by the SNIM iron ore company to house its workers and engineers. The grid of low concrete bungalows, palm trees, and the SNIM social club is a strange echo of mid-century company-town architecture in the middle of the Sahara.
It is a working community, not a tourist site, but worth driving through on the way down the peninsula. The road from here to La Güera and the Cap Blanc tip starts at the southern edge of town.
