Central Market

The covered central market on Avenue Médian is the place to find Mauritanian textiles, silver Tuareg-style jewellery, dates from the Adrar, salt slabs from the desert mines, and the inevitable Chinese imports. It is also where the city's expat West African traders gather — Senegalese tailors, Ghanaian shoemakers, Malian fabric merchants.

Bargaining is expected. The market is busiest in the morning and quietens around midday.
