Museum of Ouadane

The small municipal museum holds artefacts from the town's caravan-era past: pottery, tools, jewellery, and items from the trans-Saharan trade. It is modest by any international standard but provides useful context for the ruins on the cliff above, and the staff are often happy to talk about local history if you have the time.

Adjacent to the museum, or accessible through the same contact, is a library of ancient manuscripts — texts from the Islamic scholarly tradition that survived here because Ouadane was once an important centre of learning. Access to the manuscripts requires prior arrangement; ask at the museum.
