The tasting bar at the Rhumerie de Chamarel is the obvious place in Chamarel to have a serious drink. After the distillery tour, or independently, you can sit at the bar and work through the range: white rum, aged expressions, and flavoured rums infused with vanilla, coconut, and other island botanicals. The terrace looks out over the cane fields and down toward the coast.
The agricole rums here are genuinely distinctive — lighter and more aromatic than the molasses-based rums most visitors will know, with a fresh, grassy quality that makes them more approachable neat. The staff can talk through the differences and help you find something you like. Cocktails are also available, though the straight pours are worth prioritising given the quality of the product.
