Port Louis is compact enough to walk between most central sights. The main points of interest — the central market, Chinatown, Caudan Waterfront, Place d'Armes, and Aapravasi Ghat — are all within 15–20 minutes on foot.
Bus
Two main bus stations serve Port Louis: Victoria Square bus terminus on the western side of the city centre, and Immigration Square (also called Labourdonnais terminus) on the northern edge. Most inter-city routes radiate from one of these two stations. City-centre bus fares are Rs 20–30. Buses stop running around 8pm; services to outlying areas stop earlier.
The Metro Express light rail connects Port Louis to Curepipe via Rose Hill and Quatre Bornes — faster and more comfortable than the bus for that route. The station is near Victoria Square.
Taxi
Taxis are plentiful around the Caudan Waterfront, at the bus stations, and outside the main hotels. Agree on a fare before you get in — there are no meters. Short hops within the city centre cost Rs 150–250. A taxi to the airport from Port Louis is around Rs 1,200–1,500. For fixed pricing, apps like Yugo and MauriRide work in Port Louis.
Driving
Traffic in Port Louis during rush hours (7–9am and 4–6:30pm) is severe. If you're renting a car, avoid driving in or out of the city at those times. Parking in the centre is limited; the Caudan Waterfront has a large paid car park.
