Getting There

Mauritius has a single international airport, Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International (MRU) at Plaisance, on the south-east coast about 45 km from Port Louis. Allow 50–70 minutes by road. A taxi from the airport to the capital is around Rs 1,500–1,800; the cheaper option is the express bus to Port Louis (Rs 100–150), which leaves from the rank just outside arrivals and takes about 90 minutes.

Within the island, Port Louis is the main bus hub — almost every cross-island route ends at one of the two terminals (Victoria Square or Immigration Square). The Metro Express light rail connects the city to Curepipe via Rose Hill and Quatre Bornes, and is the fastest way to reach the central plateau towns (around 45 minutes end to end).

The port handles cruise ships and the occasional cargo passenger ferry, but there are no scheduled passenger sailings.
