Jummah Mosque

The Jummah Mosque is a striking pale-green building on Royal Road, in the neighbourhood between the market and Chinatown. It dates from the 1850s and blends Indian, Creole, and Mughal influences — an arched entrance, ornate teak doors, and a courtyard that catches the trade-wind breeze.

Non-Muslim visitors are welcome outside prayer times if dressed modestly. Cover shoulders and knees, remove shoes at the entrance. The interior is simple and cool, a welcome pause from the heat of the surrounding streets.
