Café Sahara

A central café near the main square that serves as a meeting point for the town's informal social life. Strong black coffee, the syrupy espresso-adjacent style common across North Africa, and rounds of mint tea are the staples. Pastries in the morning come from a nearby bakery and are best consumed quickly before the flies get interested.

The terrace tables face a busy street, which makes this a good spot for watching Dakhla go by — trucks heading south toward Mauritania, military vehicles, kite-laden cars turning off toward the lagoon. Not a bar in any sense, but perfectly placed for a long slow afternoon with small glasses of tea and little pressure to move on.
