Windsurfing the Lagoon

Before kitesurfing took over, Dakhla was already a well-established windsurfing destination, and the discipline still has a dedicated presence on the lagoon. Several camps cater specifically to windsurfers, with a good range of boards for different skill levels and sail sizes to match the varied wind conditions through the day.

The lagoon's combination of flat water and reliable breeze makes it suitable for both technical freestyle and beginner planing. Wind is typically strongest between midday and late afternoon. The lagoon also hosts periodic windsurfing competitions that draw international competitors, making it one of the few Saharan venues where you might watch professional-level riding while eating a sandwich on the shore.
