Kelaa M'Gouna is the main gateway to the M'Goun massif, the high central section of the Atlas that includes Jebel M'Goun (4,071 m), Morocco's second-highest peak. The standard multi-day circuit takes five to seven days and passes through the spectacular M'Goun Gorge, several remote Berber villages, and alpine meadows that fill with wildflowers in June.
Guides are strongly recommended — the trails are not well-marked and the terrain is serious. Most guesthouses in Kelaa M'Gouna can arrange a guide and mule support; prices are lower here than in Marrakech-organised treks to Toubkal. Day hikes into the lower valleys and gorges are also possible without a guide if you have map-reading experience.
