Lazama Synagogue

The only working synagogue left in the Mellah, behind a discreet door off a narrow lane in the old Jewish quarter. The current building dates from the seventeenth century, on the site of a much older synagogue founded by Sephardic refugees from the Spanish expulsion of 1492. A small museum upstairs covers the history of Marrakesh's Jewish community, which numbered around 30,000 at its peak and is now a few hundred.

Open daily except Saturday. A small donation is expected. A guide at the door usually offers a short tour for a tip.
