Silver jewellery has been made on Ibo for centuries, and the craft is still very much alive. The island's silversmiths work in small workshops scattered through the old town, using scrap metal — old coins, wire, salvaged silver — and techniques passed down through generations. The intricate filigree pieces they produce are among the finest traditional craft work in Mozambique. You can watch them work and buy directly; prices are reasonable and the quality is exceptional. Ask at your lodge for an introduction to a workshop.
