The Sunday market is the strongest reason to come to Ayorou. Traders arrive with grain, livestock, fish, cloth, salt, vegetables, and the small practical goods that keep river towns supplied. Boats pull in from island villages while herders and farmers come overland from the dry country behind the river.
It is a working market rather than a staged attraction, which is what makes it worth the trip. Go early, keep money and cameras discreet, and expect the best scenes to be ordinary ones: people bargaining under shade cloth, sacks being loaded into pirogues, and livestock moving through the dust at the edge of town.
