Getting There

Kouré sits about 60 km southeast of Niamey on the paved road toward Dosso. The drive takes roughly an hour in good conditions. A four-wheel drive is strongly recommended — the final tracks into the bush where the giraffes roam are unpaved and can be rough.

There is no public transport directly to Kouré. From Niamey, your options are renting a vehicle with a driver (arranges through hotels or travel agencies in the capital), or joining an organised day trip. Most Niamey-based operators that handle tourist excursions can arrange a Kouré visit.

Do not stop for self-appointed guides who approach vehicles on the road before you reach the village. The official guide association operates from Kouré itself. Ask for guides at the village on arrival.
