When to Go

The dry season — November through February — is the best time to visit. Temperatures are tolerable, the bush is more open after the rains have passed, and the giraffes are easier to spot. Mornings are cool and pleasant; afternoons can be warm even in December.

The rainy season runs from June to September. Tracks become muddy and difficult even for four-wheel drives, and the dense vegetation makes finding the giraffes harder. Heat and humidity are at their peak. Visiting is possible but not recommended.

March to May is transitional: drier than the rainy season but increasingly hot as the Harmattan winds ease. The giraffes are still findable, but midday temperatures can exceed 40°C.

Avoid arriving in the middle of the day regardless of season — giraffes rest in shade during the hottest hours, which makes spotting them harder and the walk less pleasant.
