Getting There

By Air

Roland Garros International Airport (RUN) in Saint-Denis is the main entry point. Air Austral, the island's own airline, operates the most frequent services and connects Réunion to Paris (roughly 11 hours direct), as well as to Mauritius, Madagascar, the Comoros, Mayotte, and Johannesburg. Air France also flies direct from Paris. From most other origins you will connect through Paris, or through Mauritius or Johannesburg.

From Mauritius, the flight takes around 50 minutes. Air Austral and Air Mauritius both cover the route several times daily, making it easy to combine the two islands in a single trip. The ferry between Port Louis and Saint-Denis (operated by CTM) is a slower, cheaper alternative: around 12 hours overnight.

The island's second airport, Pierrefonds (ZSE) near Saint-Pierre in the south, handles regional flights to Mauritius and Rodrigues.

By Sea

CTM operates a passenger and cargo ferry between Saint-Denis and Port Louis (Mauritius). Crossings take approximately 12 hours and depart several times per week; schedules vary by season. It is an economical option if you are travelling between the two islands and want to avoid a flight.

Arriving by private yacht is possible — the main port of entry is Saint-Denis, with a yacht basin at Saint-Gilles-les-Bains on the west coast as an alternative.
