The Cathedral of Saint-Joseph is the main Roman Catholic church of Thiès and the seat of the Diocese of Thiès. Built during the colonial period, the church is a prominent landmark in the city centre and notable for its stained glass windows, which were designed and produced locally by Senegalese artists. The windows depict religious scenes populated with African figures — a deliberate decision to embed the African church in African imagery.
Thiès has a significant Christian population alongside its Muslim majority, and the cathedral is an active parish church. Sunday Mass is well attended. The area around the cathedral is quiet compared to the market quarter and makes for a pleasant short walk.
