The bicycle is the standard form of transport on La Digue, and it suits the island perfectly. The roads are flat along the coast and the whole island takes under an hour to cross at a gentle pace. Bicycle rental is available at the ferry dock in La Passe and from most guesthouses; daily rates are very reasonable.
Ox-carts are available for those who would rather not pedal, and some of the hotels run pickups. There is a handful of motorised vehicles on the island — mostly for supplies and services — but the ethos is deliberately low-key. Expect to be on a bike.
