Money
The local currency is the Seychelles Rupee (SCR). Most tourist expenses — accommodation, car hire, national park entry, diving — are quoted and payable in US dollars or euros. Local restaurants and buses use rupees. ATMs are plentiful on Mahé and available on Praslin; bring cash to La Digue and smaller islands. Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted at larger establishments.
Visa
No advance visa is required, but all visitors must obtain a Travel Authorization (TA) before arrival — apply online at the Seychelles Electronic Border System for around €11. You'll need confirmed accommodation and a return or onward ticket.
Health
There is no malaria risk in Seychelles. Tap water meets WHO standards and is safe to drink. Healthcare is reasonable on Mahé and basic on the outer islands; travel insurance with medical evacuation cover is strongly recommended.
Language
Three official languages: Seychellois Creole (spoken natively by around 90% of the population), English, and French. English is widely understood in hotels, restaurants, and tourist facilities.
Safety
Seychelles is one of the safer destinations in the Indian Ocean region. Petty theft exists but violent crime against tourists is rare. The sea can be hazardous — some beaches have strong currents and no lifeguards. If a beach has warning flags, pay attention to them.
Climate and Electricity
Tropical throughout the year, with temperatures between 24°C and 32°C. Electricity is 240V, 50Hz with UK-style three-pin plugs.
