Grand Anse Praslin is the main beach on the west side of the island, close to the main road and within easy reach of most accommodation. It is a long arc of pale sand backed by casuarina trees and palms, calmer than the north coast beaches but with slightly less dramatic scenery. The advantage is convenience: it is close to restaurants and accommodation, and less crowded in high season than Anse Lazio.
The beach is good for swimming when the trade winds are not blowing (roughly October to April). During the southeast monsoon (June to September) the surf picks up and conditions become rougher.
