Getting There

Bo is about 240 kilometres east of Freetown on the main A2 road through the country. The journey takes approximately four hours by shared taxi or bus, longer in wet season when road conditions deteriorate. Shared taxis and minibuses operate from Freetown's lumley-area bush taxi parks.

There is no commercial airport in Bo. The nearest airport is Lungi International Airport near Freetown, which requires the Freetown ferry crossing and then the road journey east. For connections within Sierra Leone, shared taxis and private hire vehicles are the main options.

Bo is the transport hub for the Southern Province. Shared taxis and minibuses connect the city to Kenema, Kono, and the diamond-mining districts to the east, to Pujehun and the Gola Forest area to the south, and back west to Freetown.
