Getting There

Most travellers arrive overland from Hargeisa, four to five hours by shared minibus on a tarmac road that is mostly in reasonable shape. The bus station in Hargeisa is at Jigjiga Yar; departures run several times each morning and dry up after midday.

From Ethiopia, the Tog Wajaale border crossing is about twenty kilometres south of Borama and is the busiest land crossing between Ethiopia and Somaliland. Shared taxis on either side connect the border with Jigjiga (Ethiopia) and Borama. You will need a Somaliland visa, which is issued at the immigration office in Hargeisa or at Egal International Airport — not at Tog Wajaale. Plan accordingly.

Borama Airport sits a few kilometres outside town but receives no scheduled commercial flights. Travel by air means flying into Hargeisa and continuing by road.
