Franschhoek is built for leisurely enjoyment of wine, food, and landscape. The estates along the Franschhoek Wine Valley are the core attraction — most offer tastings, cellar tours, and restaurant lunches among the vineyards. The Huguenot Memorial Museum at the end of the main street tells the story of the French settlers who planted the first vines.
The Franschhoek Pass, crossing the mountains to the east, is one of the most scenic drives in the Western Cape and can be done as a half-day excursion.
