The Rupert Museum is Stellenbosch's strongest art stop, with a collection focused on modern South African work from the 1940s into the early 2000s. The core collection was assembled by Anton and Huberte Rupert, and the museum presents it in a calm, spacious building away from the busiest part of town.
It is a useful counterweight to the wine estates and Cape Dutch streets: less about heritage scenery, more about how South African artists have looked at landscape, politics, abstraction, and modern life. Check current exhibitions before going, as the permanent collection is often rehung around temporary shows.
