Mater Dolorosa is a Catholic church in the centre of Mbabane, one of the older religious buildings in the capital. The church serves as the seat of the Diocese of Manzini and is an active parish with a large Swazi congregation. Its architecture is modest but solid — a common missionary-era style — and it stands in a quiet compound within easy walking distance of the main commercial area.
On Sundays the church fills for morning mass and the singing carries well beyond the walls. If you happen to be in town, attending or at least pausing outside for the music is worth the detour. The church grounds have a small garden that provides a moment of calm from the surrounding urban noise.
