Khan's Barbecue on Mosque Street is the go-to for Indian street food in Arusha. This open-air spot has been operating for years, and represents the best of Tanzania's South Asian culinary heritage — the Indian Ocean trade routes brought Indian merchants to East Africa centuries ago, and the food they left behind has become integral to Tanzanian urban eating.
Samosas, bhajis, grilled seekh kebabs, and freshly baked chapati come out hot from the kitchen at low prices. The lamb curry is excellent. Mosque Street and India Street around it form a compact neighbourhood where Indian-Tanzanian families have lived for generations; Khan's is the most atmospheric eating option in the area, particularly good for dinner when the street comes alive.
