Bangwe Point

The wooded headland of Bangwe forms the southern arm of Kigoma's natural harbour and gives the town its sheltered anchorage. A rough footpath runs out along the point, climbing a low ridge that offers the best high view of the bay, the railway terminus, the town, and the lake stretching away to the west. On a clear day you can pick out the mountains of the Democratic Republic of Congo on the far shore.

The walk takes about two hours there and back from the centre. Bring water — it is hot — and ask for directions in Bangwe village before starting up the path, as the route is not signposted.
