Mtera's draw is almost entirely the birdlife around the reservoir. Birders come for the waterbird concentrations along the shallow margins, particularly in the dry season when water sources elsewhere shrink. The Logi Mbuga and Pakwaya wetlands are the two most productive sites, and local guides from Logi village are available for those who want a guide through the reeds.
Photography at the dam and power plant infrastructure is prohibited.
